Susan Gay a clear standout in Rehoboth

July 26, 2019

In a field of passionate, talented and smart candidates for city commissioner this year, I believe Susan Gay is the clear standout. What sets her apart is her years of experience serving the community as a volunteer, both with citizen groups and on committees.

I have known Susan and worked closely with her since 2015 on the issue of preserving trees in the city. We co-chaired the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Trees when it was formed in 2016 and currently serve together on that committee.

Susan was recommended to me as a partner in my tree interests by a mutual friend who was aware of her tireless work with the Rehoboth Beach Homeowners’ Association. Her energy, attention to detail, analytic mind and ability to communicate and work effectively with others soon became apparent to me. These qualities and her group associations have been expertly detailed by previous letter writers, so I will not belabor them here.

From my perspective as a “hometown girl,” a 56-year resident, a former planning commissioner, a current city committee member and a close observer of our city government for the past four years, what is needed to keep our city safe and functioning into the future while preserving the charm that makes us unique requires a deep understanding of the issues and mechanics necessary to achieve these goals.

Susan Gay is the candidate with the prerequisite “in the trenches” experience to bring this level of understanding to our city government, as well as the personal qualities to allow her to work effectively with various constituencies and with those of differing opinions.
