Susan Gay has experience Rehoboth needs

August 9, 2019

The Rehoboth Beach election for city commissioner is tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is an unusual race this year because it has the largest number of candidates ever in a single commissioner election - six candidates for two slots.

Several of the candidates are new to Rehoboth, and are only now getting involved with civic activities. We are fortunate to have a candidate with the credentials of Susan Gay. Her civic experience is unequaled in this race. Serving as vice chair of the planning commission, she has been at the forefront of evaluating proposals for several new hotels and Clear Space Theatre. Her thoughtful and careful review is to make sure they conform to the CDP, zoning and are appropriate for the scale of our community. We have watched as she has built consensus among the eight other members of the planning commission, a key decision-making body in the city. This experience is the perfect training ground for serving as a city commissioner.

With no incumbents running this year, it is especially important that a new commissioner be knowledgeable about the city and the current issues facing this community. Secondly, we need a commissioner who is transparent, trustworthy and sincere. Susan Gay fits the bill, and deserves your vote tomorrow, Aug. 10.
