Sussex Academy has promoted Megan Reed, learning support interventionist, to dean of elementary.

In this role, Reed will be responsible for fostering a strong instructional environment that supports high‑quality teaching and learning across the elementary campus. She will also play a key role in cultivating a positive, inclusive school culture where students feel supported, staff feel valued and families feel connected to the school community.

In addition, she will oversee daily operations, guide student conduct, manage schedules and staffing, and coordinate events and programs that enrich students’ experiences. She will serve as a vital link among school leadership, families and community partners, support state assessment coordination and lead planning for the school’s summer program.

“I am deeply committed to ensuring that every child at Sussex Academy feels supported, challenged and inspired to explore, experience and excel,” Reed said.

Head of School Kyle Bentley said Reed has contributed to schoolwide growth through curriculum alignment efforts, classroom support for teachers, new‑teacher mentoring and professional development focused on strengthening curricular practices.

“Mrs. Reed is a student-centered leader who understands the importance of building strong relationships, supporting high-quality instruction and creating a positive school culture,” Bentley said. “Her experience, leadership and commitment to doing what is best for students make her an excellent fit for Sussex Academy, and we are excited to welcome her to our elementary campus.”

Reed, who has more than 18 years of experience in elementary education, joined Sussex Academy in 2021. Her background spans both regular and special education, and she has served as the elementary representative on Sussex Academy’s school board for three years.

Reed plays an active role in school governance and long‑term planning through her service on the school board and the strategic planning committee.

She holds a Delaware school principal certification and is currently pursuing her doctorate in education at the University of Delaware. Reed received both her bachelor’s degree in education, special education, and her master’s degree in instruction, concentration in literacy, from the University of Delaware.
