The Sussex Academy swim teams made history Dec. 16, earning their first wins over Sussex Tech in the program’s five-year history.
The boys’ team took a 110-58 win, while the Seahawks girls won 103-67.
“I’ve been stressing to our team how important and valuable each place is beyond first,” said Sussex Academy coach Tom Martiner. “It was great to see our young team work for those two-through-five places, and it made all the difference. This win can be attributed to our depth. We are crazy deep this year with quality athletes. Swimming is often considered an individual sport, but I disagree. This win showed how important having an entire and complete team is. The second and third swimmers in each event won the meet for us today.”
The boys won the 200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 400 free relay.
Sussex Tech boys took the 200 free, 200 individual medley, 500 free, 200 free relay and 100 backstroke.
The Lady Seahawks won the 200 free, 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 400 free relay.
The Lady Ravens took first in the 200 medley relay, 200 individual medley, 100 fly and 500 free.
