Sussex Ballet to host ‘Nutcracker’ auditions Aug. 24

For the 16th consecutive year, Sussex Dance Academy and its youth ballet company, Sussex Ballet, will present its annual production of the holiday classic, “The Nutcracker,” at 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Cape Henlopen High School theatre.

The academy, under the direction of Katie Downes Walker, has been showcasing the talent of local dancers since 2002. In addition to public performances, the company will also present complimentary “Excerpts from The Nutcracker” at local schools throughout the holiday season.

Auditions for “The Nutcracker” will take place Saturday, Aug. 24, at Sussex Dance Academy, Suite 20 B in the Midway Shopping Center, Rehoboth Beach.

The auditions are open to dancers ages 7 and older who currently study ballet at any school. Dancers ages 7-11 should come to the 9:30 a.m. audition, and dancers 12 and older should attend the audition at 11 a.m.

The selected cast of dancers will also travel to Ocean City, Md., Saturday, Dec. 15, to perform at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center.
