Sussex council switches to college setting

Move to Delaware Tech provides more seating area for public to attend
March 3, 2021

In order to provide more room for the public to attend and testify during public hearings, Sussex County Council met March 2 for the first of a series of meetings to be held in the Carter Partnership Center at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown. Planning and zoning commissioners have had three meetings at the college so far.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, council chambers in the county administration building on The Circle in downtown Georgetown can accommodate only 30 people.

Council will meet at the college on Tuesday, March 16, and again Tuesday, March 23. At the college, officials are shielded by Plexiglass dividers, and seating for the public is set up to provide for social distancing.

With three public hearings on the March 2 agenda, the meeting lasted nearly six hours. Council and planning and zoning meetings are also available virtually and by telephone.
