Sussex League of Women Voters presents Water Warriors’ Expo Oct. 6

September 20, 2018

What are people doing about water quality in Sussex County? The League of Women Voters is inviting all county residents to a Water Warriors’ Expo at the Milton Fire Hall, 116 Front St., Saturday, Oct. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m.

“This free forum gives organizations, legislator, and candidates who are concerned about the environment - particularly water quality - the opportunity to provide the public with information about their environmental initiatives,” said Nancy Kassner, chair of the League of Women Voters’ Environmental and Natural Resources Committee. “There will be no formal speeches, debates or forms to complete, and it promises to be fun for the whole family!”

Organizations setting up displays and providing information include The Sierra Club, Marine Education, Research, Rehabilitation Institute, Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, Keep Our Wells Clean, DE Interfaith Power & Light, Protecting Our Indian River, Socially Responsible Agricultural Project, Milton Sustainability Committee, Lower Sussex NAACP Youth Council 2719, Citizens Climate Lobby Lower DE Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project, and Fox Chase LLC/Farm Freezers.

The expo is Part Three of the League’s public information series Safe Drinking Water? Everyone’s Concern. The League’s aim is not only to raise awareness of current well-water contamination and ongoing threats to public health and the environment in Sussex County, but also to stress the need for the public to insist on long-term solutions.

As a nonpartisan organization, the League of Women Voters encourages informed and active participation in government and seeks to influence public policy through education and advocacy. For more information go to www.sussexlwv.org.
