Middletown freshman Katelyn Li hit the back of the net off a pass from junior Cecily DiVirgilio to end the Ravens’ season in the 92nd minute of the DIAA quarterfinals May 22 at Caesar Rodney.
The Cavaliers outshot the Ravens 28-8 in a tough defensive battle.
“Val Whealton’s effort in goal was outstanding,” said Sussex Tech coach Carlos Villa. “It was a huge blow losing Lilly [Short].”
The Tech freshman was sidelined with a knee injury suffered in the Polytech game. She scored 27 goals this season.
“I’m proud of the team’s effort and attitude throughout the match,” Villa said. “It was a game that could’ve gone either way.”
Middletown faces Wilmington Charter in the DIAA semifinals.
