Sussex Tech volleyball game supports fight against breast cancer

January 8, 2019

At their annual Dig Pink games Oct. 2, the Sussex Technical High School girls junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams promoted breast health education and raised funds for the Allen Cancer Center at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition.

Playing against Delmarva Christian High School at Sussex Tech, students, faculty and families in attendance donned pink outfits to raise awareness for breast cancer, which affects 1 in 8 women and is the second leading cause of death among women.

The two games raised $1,700, which was split between the Allen Cancer Center and the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. “We want to get the whole community involved in fighting breast cancer,” said coach Carle Kling. “Our volleyball players are very committed to this cause.” Special activities during the game included education tables provided by the Allen Cancer Center and Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, a Pink bake sale, silent and ticket auctions, and event T-shirts available for purchase.
