Sussex way of life being ruined by development

September 3, 2019

In regard to the article that P&Z voted in favor of a convenience store located at Route 24 and Angola Road (Aug. 27 edition), obviously Commissioner Bruce Mears has not been to the site or the surrounding area. There is a gas station and convenience store located in Peddlers Village, less than one mile from this site.

As of now we have five gas stations, two Dollar Generals, many convenience stores as well as two major grocery stores in approximately two miles of this intersection. That area has been promoted as residential, and a 7-Eleven store would produce light and noise pollution nobody wants near their home.

I think before any project gets approved by either planning and zoning and county council, they should have to visit the site and the surrounding area to see what the real impact of their decision is on our community. They should also navigate our roads during a rainy Saturday, any Friday to Monday and work times such as on Route 24 to the beaches in the morning and then back to Millsboro anytime after 4 p.m. It is not fun and is only getting worse.

I have lived here for more than 25 years, and the massive amount of residential construction in the last 10 years without any thought to infrastructure and quality of life saddens me.

I have seen total destruction of a forest and truckload after truckload of dirt filling in the little remaining wetlands in my area.  I wanted this to be my forever home, but now I am not so sure this is where I want it to be.
