SWAT catering serves in Milton

Spaghetti dinner to be served Easter Sunday at 10 a.m.
April 9, 2020

On a mission, Jennifer and Welton Evans spent April 5 in the municipal parking lot in Milton serving up free meals from their food truck.

M&J catering – Serving With A Twist, or SWAT, is the Evans’ mission. With support from their church, God’s House of Deliverance in Millsboro, they serve the public in times of need, offering home-cooked meals.

With the BBQ Doctor crew helping to cook, and donations from local businesses, anyone who got in line received half a grilled chicken, homemade green beans or corn, and potatoes or rice. The BBQ Doctor crew used six grills and five cooks to prepare 8,000 pounds of donated Mountaire chickens, and BJ’s donated more than 300 pounds of charcoal.

The Evans said everything is donated, and any tips or donations go to purchase food for future events. “This is not a source of income for us; we both have jobs, and we are supported by our church to provide free meals,” Jennifer Evans said. The food truck is used to feed homeless people during Thanksgiving. “This is a mission for us; we don’t want people to be hungry during this time of uncertainty,” she said.
