Take me out to the movies in Lewes

August 20, 2020

Last Saturday evening we decided to venture outside of our well-established comfort zone to view a movie at the Cinema Art Theater.  We made this decision after reading a very detailed explanation on their website of the procedures they had instituted to ensure the health and safety of their patrons. We purchased our tickets online and arrived at the facility wearing our masks about 20 minutes before the film was to begin.

The entrance was clearly marked; a staff person behind a plastic barrier asked for our names and quickly found them on a pre-printed list she had for this showing, and she then led us into the theater.

We had read that the theater was operating well below the capacity currently allowed and we were remarkably impressed with how this was implemented.   The staff member explained that only two or three seats in each row were available for seating and we could clearly see that all other seats were roped off in such a way that it was impossible to use them.

We could see that if two seats in one row were available for seating on one end of the row, the seats available in the next row were at the opposite end of the row. We were also shown which exit to use if we needed to use the restrooms during the show and which way to re-enter as well as how we would exit the theater at the end of the show. Once we were seated, we quickly realized we were quite far away from any other patrons, all of whom were wearing masks as required by the theater’s rules, and so we were able to relax and enjoy the movie feeling very safe and comfortable.  From past experiences attending the CAT we expected a high degree of attention to detail, and our expectations were exceeded. So, if you feel it might be time for you and your family to venture out to see a movie, we would encourage you to consider visiting the Cinema Art Theater located behind the Wawa in Lewes.  And, a huge thank you to the staff and management of the CAT.
