Take Two Drama Club offers ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’ March 22-23

At Sussex Central High School in Georgetown
March 17, 2019

The Take Two Drama Club of Sussex Central High School is proud to present "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," a hilariously edgy musical by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin, from an original concept by Rebecca Feldman. The show is presented by special permission from Music Theatre International. Focusing on the wacky and weird eccentricities and deep inner lives of several middle school spelling bee contestants, the musical - which has delighted audiences for decades - now comes to Sussex Central.

The Sussex Central production will take place Friday, March 22, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 23, at 2 and 7 p.m. The show is at the Centre for Visual and Performing Arts at Sussex Central High School, 26026 Patriots Way, Georgetown. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission, $7 for seniors, students and military, and $7 at a special two-for-one rate for all middle school students. No one will be turned away for inability to pay, but donations and all proceeds immediately support future Take Two/SCHS dramatic productions.

Performers include Abbey Ruark, Andrew Radcliffe, Zachary Ables, Sarah Aleman, Roy Truitt, Hannah Bellistri, Rowan Reusing, Meoghan Swain and Kaitlyn Nusz.  Says Take Two Drama Club advisor and teacher David Warick, "This musical is quite special, because four lucky audience members are asked to join our players onstage to share in the fun of this ridiculous spelling bee."

The themes and language are for mature audiences (ages 13 and over), but the humor is truly universal. Warick adds, "These are some of the most musically and dramatically talented students we have in the district.  They have created a classic night of musical comedy that everyone should see!”

The Take Two Drama Club is an independent (501c) nonprofit organization which supports production of plays and musicals for the students of Sussex Central High School and the surrounding communities. All ticket proceeds go directly back into production of future shows and supporting the students of Sussex Central in studying and creating theatre.
