A Rehoboth Beach teen faces drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop May 9 on Route 1 near Milton.
Delaware State Police on patrol at 11:30 a.m. pulled over a black Cadillac sedan after they say it was speeding northbound on Route 1 south of Broadkill Road, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.
Police contacted the driver, Kyree Coxon, 18, and could smell marijuana from inside the car, DeMalto said. Coxon was taken into custody at the scene without incident. During a search of the Cadillac, DeMalto said, police found about 64 grams of marijuana, a FHN 9-millimeter handgun, and more than $1,100 in suspected drug proceeds.
Coxon was transported to Troop 7 and charged with felony possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled substance, felony carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and other drug and traffic offenses. Coxon was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $8,500 unsecured bond.
