Teens charged in Plantations East burglary

January 31, 2023

Two Maryland teens face charges after police say they broke into a Plantations East home near Lewes Jan. 29.

Delaware State Police were called to a home at 10:12 p.m. on Pecan Court after the homeowner, who was not home, was watching a security camera and saw a suspect holding a large knife while walking around a screened-in porch area, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.

When police arrived, DeMalto said, they saw a screen door and screen window had been cut, and a glass window had been shattered. Police along with State Police Aviation established a perimeter, DeMalto said, and the homeowner reported that he could see two suspects inside his garage. A short time later, police said, two males walked out of the front door wearing face coverings. Troopers tried to detain a 17-year-old male at the scene, police said, but he physically resisted arrest. The 17-year-old, of Chesapeake, Md., was taken into custody after a brief struggle, DeMalto said, and troopers recovered a large knife that had been concealed in his pocket. Police also arrested Nathan Lagimoniere, 18, of Huntington, Md., who was taken into custody without incident.

Lagimoniere and the 17-year-old were taken to Troop 7 and charged with felony second-degree burglary, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, second-degree conspiracy and criminal mischief. The 17-year-old was also charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and resisting arrest.

Both were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3. Lagimoniere was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $18,100 cash bond; the 17-year-old was committed to Stevenson House Detention Center in default of $30,600 secured bond.
