An employee of Bay to Beach in Greenwood was critically injured July 21 after a Tesla crashed into the office where the woman was working.
A 31-year-old Seaford woman was working about 11 a.m. in the office on the corner of Route 16 and Route 13 when a 79-year-old Virginia woman driving a 2018 Tesla Model 3 westbound on Route 16 approaching Route 13 accelerated suddenly to turn onto southbound Route 13, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.
The Tesla continued to travel in a southwesterly direction, crossing both southbound lanes of Route 13 before exiting the roadway and driving into the Bay to the Beach sales office building, Jaffe said. The Seaford woman was working at her desk inside the Bay to the Beach building when the Tesla crashed through the wall, striking the employee at her desk, Jaffe said.
The employee was first taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital but later transferred to Christiana Hospital where she is in critical condition, Jaffe said.
The 79-year-old female of Gloucester, Va., was properly restrained, and she was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. The intersection of East Market Street and Southbound Sussex Highway was closed for about four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
