Thank you to Cape Henlopen’s Superintendent Fulton and Sussex Tech’s Superintendent Guthrie for their recent decision to have their basketball players perform community service. Good for the two superintendents and great for the players.
Maybe starting a tradition and an expectation for student athletes - “Serve to Play” - is something to think about! While I acknowledge that many of our students are involved in service projects, I submit that we need to do more to infuse the notion of giving back as a way of life with our students - and, yes, particularly our athletes.
Superintendents Fulton and Guthrie have modeled the coexistence of competition and cooperation as their players quest for excellence and manhood.
