Thomas ‘Tom’ E. Spies, popular manager

Thomas “Tom” E. Spies, 55, of Milford passed away Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at Bayhealth Milford after a courageous battle with COVID-19.  He was born in Ogden, Utah, son of Laura Mitchell.  

Tom, also known to many as Tommy, was a unique, loving person who genuinely cared for his family and those fortunate enough to be considered his friend.  He also had the ability to bring laughter to any room in which he was present.  Tom worked as a dedicated employee in the hospitality industry for over 27 years and was a true mentor to so many.  As a manager, Tom was a favorite among many of his employees and genuinely cared for everyone who worked with him.  He also went above and beyond to make sure that his guests had the best experience.  

Tom loved to travel and always looked forward to the annual family cruise during Spring Break.  He was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan.  

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ferd and Olivine Booth; stepfather, Charles “Sam” Mitchell; and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his mother, Laura Mitchell; three sisters, Valerie Willey (Milton), Teresa Bowman, and Sherrie Harmon (Chad); five nieces, Amanda McClay (Jamie), Sarah Willey, April Bowman, Leah White, and Kyla Harmon; four nephews, George Jackson (Kimberly), Cody Jackson, Cole Jackson (Amy), and Nicholas Jackson (Dallas); and several great-nieces and -nephews.  

Family and friends are invited to attend a public visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30, at Calvary Church, 301 SE Front St., Milford.  A Celebration of Life will begin at 1 p.m.  Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
