Thomas Bernard Dowd Jr. lived a life defined by family, friendship, faith and an extraordinary ability to bring people together. He passed away peacefully surrounded by those who meant the most to him.
A proud graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, Tom built a distinguished career of more than 30 years with Sears Roebuck & Company, ultimately serving as a national human resources executive. He was admired not only for his professional accomplishments, but for the way he led – with integrity, humility, humor and a genuine interest in people.
Family was always at the heart of Tom's life. He and his beloved wife, Sheryl, shared 60 years of marriage filled with love, laughter and devotion. They renewed their wedding vows just months before his passing, celebrating a partnership that had endured for six decades.
Tom was a devoted father to Elaine, David and Tom, an adoring grandfather to Katie, Ryan, Bryan and Jenna, and brother to many brothers and sisters from Boston. He cherished family traditions, cheering from the sidelines and every opportunity to make his grandchildren laugh. To them, he was simply their silly “Poppy.”
Tom had a larger-than-life personality and wonderful appreciation for life's simple pleasures – especially golf, good food, great conversation, and time with family and friends. His quick wit and infectious humor could turn an ordinary moment into a memorable one.
Tom's greatest accomplishment was the family he built, the friendships he cherished and the many lives he touched. He leaves behind a lifetime of lessons, laughter and love that will continue through generations.
He will be deeply missed and remembered forever.
