Thomas Clair Umbaugh, owned painting business

Thomas Clair Umbaugh, 63, of Millsboro, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa., suddenly passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

Tom was born in Leechburg, Pa., Nov. 29, 1955, son of William Umbaugh and Nancy Umbaugh.  He owned and operated Umbaugh Painting in Millsboro.  

Tom loved watching his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, watching scary movies, and helping his neighbors and friends with their maintenance projects.  In addition, Tom loved spending time with his family, especially pranking and scaring his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

Tom was preceded in death by his father and his twin brother, Jerry Umbaugh in 2016.  In addition to his mother, Nancy Umbaugh of Leechburg, Pa., Tom is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sharon J. McGovern; a daughter, Nicole Spisak (Tony) of Murrysville, Pa.; four stepsons, Ed McGovern (Debbie Shrubb) of Milton, Kevin McGovern of Pittsburgh, Mark McGovern (Ruth) of Millsboro and Craig McGovern (Fabi) of Laguna Niguel, Calif; two brothers, Jeff Umbaugh (Kim) of Leechburg and Todd Umbaugh (Cindy) of Vandergrift, Pa.; and two sisters, Linda Leonard (Ben) of Leechburg and Wendy Lowe (Bill) of Columbia, Pa.; and sister-in-law, Mary Umbaugh of Apollo, Pa.  Tom is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Hailey, Nicolas, Hannah, Noelle, Mark, Danielle and Cody; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Olivia and Arianna; and several nieces and nephews. A golden heart stopped beating, his body now at rest; until we meet again you will forever be with us.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may visit after 10 aa.m.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Tom’s name to Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
