Three awarded scholarships from Women’s Club of Milton

June 6, 2020

The Women’s Club of Milton awarded three $2,000 scholarships to young women graduating from high school in 2020 who excelled in academics, community service and leadership.

Clara-Rosa Hertzog, a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, is very involved in the JROTC program, where she is a member of the drill team. She was inducted into the National Honor Society in her sophomore year. Clara volunteers at Bayhealth Hospital and is working on the Fort Miles Renovation project. In 2019, Clara was selected as a school representative to the prestigious Girls State program. Clara plans to attend the University of Delaware and major in neuroscience. She hopes to specialize in neurology and work at one of the Delaware hospitals.

Evelyn Criswell, a graduate of Cape High, is a very talented artist whose work has been on display at the Milton Arts Guild and the Rehoboth Art League’s Young at Art Showcase. Evelyn enjoys playing the piano at community recitals. Her love of science has led her to the University of Delaware where she will pursue a major in civil engineering because of its applications in science, specifically physics.

Mackenzie Schmidt is a graduate of Sussex Academy. During her high school years, Mackenzie was involved in the theater program. She volunteers teaching summer theater camp to children at the local theater. Mackenzie and her entire family are very involved in volunteering at the Softball Senior League World Series, an homage to her Aunt Helen who was always involved in this event. Mackenzie has been accepted at Hofstra University where she will major in theater.

The members of the Women’s Club of Milton wish these three young women, as well as all the scholarship applicants, much success, and they look forward to learning about the recipients’ future endeavors. The club’s scholarship committee members enjoyed reading all the applications and had a difficult job choosing the top three. The committee members thank everyone for their participation in this award program.

The club works throughout the year to raise funds for its scholarship program and many other charitable contributions. Scholarship applications are available in the guidance departments of all area high schools each spring term.
