The Lewes Public Library and Browseabout Books will host an online conversation with authors Puja Guha and Dea Poirier about their new psychological thrillers at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 28.
In “Sirens of Memory,” Guha introduces Mariam, a pregnant Kuwaiti woman fleeing an abusive marriage. As the Iraqi invasion strikes, she assumes her husband Tareq is dead and flees the country. Some 25 years later and living a double life under the identity of her new husband’s dead wife, she attends an event at the Kuwaiti embassy, only to find Tareq alive – and angry. As Tareq plots his revenge, the confrontation that follows forces Mariam to confront her past as a victim and decide who she really is, once and for all.
Poirier’s “After You Died” is a paranormal thriller loosely based on true events which finds 17-year-old Asher with no memory of the night police found him covered in his girlfriend's blood. Accused of her murder and sentenced to five years at the Dozier Reform School, he soon discovers that the school, like his own memory, hides violent secrets of its own. As he begins work with the school’s psychiatrist, he finds memories returning, but they aren’t his own. When students disappear and his possible body count grows, Asher knows the answers he needs are trapped within his own mind, haunted by ghosts from the past. He needs to uncover who he is and prove the murders aren't connected to him – or risk losing his sanity and freedom forever.
The authors will be joined in conversation by Chantelle Aimée Osman, editor at Agora Books, an imprint of Polis Books.
The discussion is free to the public. Registration is required. To sign up, go to lewes.lib.de.us and visit the Virtual Programs for Adults page.
