Tickets on sale for Delaware Symphony Orchestra season

Events to include Lewes performances Sept. 30, March 24
August 12, 2018

Delaware Symphony Orchestra's 2018-19 concert season will begin at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28, in Copeland Hall at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington. David Amado will be conducting "The American Dream: A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein," featuring dazzling virtuoso violinist Jennifer Koh performing the composer's “Serenade” (after Plato's "Symposium"), plus works of Americans Robert Paterson, Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber. The concert will be repeated at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, at Cape Henlopen High School Theatre in Lewes.

Amado said, "Our 113th season celebrates the birthdays of two American titans of the concert stage: Leonard Bernstein, who would be a century old this year, with his ‘Serenade’ featuring the brilliant violinist and Delaware favorite Jennifer Koh; and Leon Fleisher, who is celebrating his 90th birthday with us by playing Mozart's youthful and charming ‘12th Piano Concerto.’ We'll also welcome soprano Mary Wilson back to sing Strauss's late masterpiece, the ‘Four Last Songs,’ and superstar on the ascent Nick Canellakis playing a cello concerto by Hollywood master Miklos Rozsa. All this plus Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Copland, Respighi, Barber and Bruckner, make this season an extraordinary one not to be missed!"

Amado will continue his popular pre-concert talks from the stage one hour before each performance.

The season, which runs through Friday, May 17, will include five Classics Series concerts at The Grand, four Chamber Series concerts in the Gold Ballroom of the Hotel du Pont, plus two added performances of Classics Series concerts in Lewes, two Explorer Concerts for children in Wilmington and Dover, a Family Concert, to be announced, and educational programs throughout the state.

Single tickets are now on sale. For the first time, tickets sales are available directly online from the DSO. To purchase tickets, go to www.delawaresymphony.org. The orchestra will be handling all box-office services.

DSO Executive Director Alan Jordan said, "We are delighted to present the DSO's 113th season of great music across Delaware. Not only will we feature a combination of traditional and lesser-known masterworks in locations through the state, but we are thrilled to improve our patrons' ticket-purchasing experience with our new online ticketing program. Now, ticket buyers can order tickets for all DSO concerts online, choose their own seats, print their tickets at home, or load them on their mobile device and go paperless. Of course, those interested in more personal service can still call the office and speak with our patron relation associate Mike Mekailek. No matter one's preference, the process of purchasing tickets should now be simpler, more convenient and streamlined.''

The second Lewes concert will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 24. Tickets for the Lewes concerts are general admission by section at $15, $25 and $35. Students 21 and under with ID pay $10.
