TRAFFIC ALERT: Services for state trooper could cause delays

Delaware Department of Transportation alerts motorists to anticipate delays and temporary closures on Route 1, Route 9, Five Points, and Tulip Drive from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., Monday, July 16, for the funeral services of Delaware State Police Trooper Master Cpl. William F. Matt.

Motorists within this vicinity should allow extra time for travel or find alternate routes.

Visitation services for friends and family will be held after 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 16, at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro. Patriots Way will be briefly closed between Bethesda Road and the Avenue of Honor for the procession.

In anticipation of possible delays in the area, DelDOT's Transportation Management Center will be monitoring traffic via radio and cameras along the route. DelDOT will be assisting Delaware State Police and Sussex County Fire Police, who will have personnel positioned throughout the area to ensure traffic flow.
