Trees are our first line of defense

September 24, 2021

Thank you for your editorial Sept. 17, “Urbanization does not mean deforestation.” So true, every word!  We need to broadcast this information before it’s too late...if it isn’t already.  One additional item:  trees are extremely important in mitigating flooding issues.  When old-growth trees are clearcut and replaced with saplings, it’s not enough.  Sussex County is the lowest county in the country, so we should be paying more attention to this than ever.  Trees are our first line of defense should we ever become ground zero for a major storm.  Now, more than ever, we need to preseve them.
