A third person died July 1 from injuries sustained during a two-vehicle crash June 26 that claimed the lives of a Virginia couple.
The crash happened at 9:15 p.m. when a Ford Mustang was traveling westbound on Milford-Harrington Highway at a high rate of speed, approaching the intersection of Church Hill Road, police said, and the Ford collided with a Nissan Rogue that had just turned right onto Milford-Harrington Highway westbound from Church Hill Road. For reasons currently being investigated, police said, the front of the Ford crashed into the rear of the Nissan, causing the Nissan to rotate and overturn, striking a utility pole. The Nissan then burst into flames.
The driver of the Nissan, Mark Yancey, 60, and his passenger, wife Jana Yancey, 62, both of Yorktown, Va., were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford, Eric Lynch, 36, of Harrington, was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, and he later died July 1 from his injuries.
The roadway was closed for about four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
