November 29, 2020

Two Millsboro residents face charges after police say they found drugs and a loaded handgun in their car during a Nov. 28 traffic stop near Milton.

Police spotted a blue Chevrolet Malibu speeding at 12:35 p.m. while it traveled westbound on Pettyjohn Road, and they pulled the car over, said Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police.

Upon contacting the driver, Jeremy Jones, 26, and passenger Melissa Bliss, 24, both of Millsboro, Hatchell said, police smelled marijuana from inside the car.

Police then performed a probable cause search and found a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun, about 15.4 grams of marijuana, .322 grams of heroin, 23 Oxycodone pills, two Ecstasy pills, and over $500 in suspected drug proceeds.

Bliss and Jones were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 7 where they were charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, felony carrying a concealed deadly weapon, three counts possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and other drug charges. Jones was also charged with speeding.

Both were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed on secured bond – Bliss to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $10,000, and Jones to Sussex Correctional Institution on $10,100.
