Two injured in single-car crash near Milton

September 19, 2021

Two people were airlifted upstate with injuries Sept. 18 after a single-car crash on Mount Joy Road.

A blue 2006 Hyundai Sonata was traveling southbound on Gravel Hill Road at 9:20 p.m. when it signaled to turn right on Morris Mill Road but abruptly turned left onto Mount Joy Road, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

A trooper following the car activated its emergency equipment, he said, but the Sonata accelerated at a high speed. The Sonata then passed a vehicle even though there was a solid double line, and the driver lost control of the car, which struck a telephone pole before overturning and striking a tree, Fournier said.

The driver, a 30-year-old Milton man, was not properly restrained and was airlifted by State Police Aviation to Christiana Medical Center with undetermined injuries. A 28-year-old female passenger from Milton was properly restrained and was transported by LifeNet Aviation to Christiana Medical Center with undetermined injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
