Unlocking the History of an Old House RBHS topic Jan. 18

January 13, 2019

On Friday, Jan. 18, at 6:30 p.m., the Rehoboth Beach Museum welcomes Mike Dixon for his lecture, Unlocking the History of an Old House.

Just as families have a past, old houses and the land they are built on have histories. This practical lecture is designed to show how to uncover that past and answer questions such as when was the structure built, who lived in it, how has it changed over time, and what are its stories. The discussion centers on implementing an organized research process, what records are available, where to look for documents, and interpreting the findings. The discussion concludes by presenting suggestions for creating a history of an old house. If  knowing where to look, people may find the clues to the past.

Dixon is a historian and writer whose research and teaching focus on social history and community studies. For over four decades, he has worked to encourage public interest and participation in the preservation of the past.

Space may be limited, so reservations are required.  Call 302-227-7310 to ensure a space. The program is free for members.  A $5 donation is suggested for nonmembers.  The museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Ave.. There is free parking and the museum is handicap accessible.
