A 67-year-old Ellendale woman died Nov. 5 following a two-vehicle crash near Milton.
Lyn G. Kargaard was driving a 2007 Toyota Matrix at 1:27 p.m. eastbound on Shingle Point Road when she stopped at the intersection of Gravel Hill Road with a stop sign posted. At the same time, a 2001 GMC Sierra pick-up was traveling southbound on Gravel Hill Road approaching the intersection of Shingle Point Road, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police. For unknown reason, Jaffe said, the Toyota pulled out directly into the path of the GMC; the front of the GMC struck the driver’s door of the Toyota causing substantial damage to the driver’s compartment. The Toyota then rotated violently off the edge of Gravel Hill Road, ejecting Kargaard, she said.
Kargaard was pronounced deceased at the scene. A Doberman Pincher that was in a cage in the rear of the vehicle also died during the crash, Jaffe said.
The operator of the GMC, a 38-year-old male from Georgetown, was properly restrained and transported to the Beebe Healthcare where he was treated and released with minor injuries.
Impairment is not a factor for either operator, Jaffe said. Gravel Hill Road and Shingle Point Road were closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
