A facility packed with meat ready for holiday dinners burned Dec. 18, leaving the company scrambling to fill orders.
Jennifer Tatem, co-owner of The Butcher Block in Milton, said a smokehouse caught fire at about 6:30 p.m. at an offsite facility at 35607 Airport Road. “We lost everything,” she said.
The facility had smokehouses, walk-in freezers and coolers that stored all the Christmas and holiday orders, Tatem said.
The Butcher Block by Hickman’s Meat Market is part of the popular Hickman’s Meat Market of Rehoboth Beach.
“We’re trying to find out what we can get for our people,” she said.
Tatem said they will try to fulfill Christmas orders, and she asked for patience during this difficult time.
Fire crews from Rehoboth Beach, Lewes and Indian River responded to the fire. More information will be added when available.
