The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a double fatal crash that occurred about 6:40 a.m., Aug. 11, on Harbeson Road south of Rust Road.
Police say a 2007 Mazda 6 was traveling northbound on Harbeson Road while a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling southbound approaching the same location from the opposite direction. For unknown reasons, the operator of the Mazda crossed the centerline and entered directly into the path of the Hyundai, resulting in a near head-on collision.
The operator of the Mazda, Michelle A. Esworthy, 46, of Joppa, Md., was not properly restrained. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the Hyundai, Robert P. Dahms, 76, of Spring Grove, Pa., was properly restrained. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Harbeson Road was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
