An urn that was stolen from a car in Dewey Beach earlier this month has been found.

Delaware State Police was informed of an urn found in the marsh adjacent to Route 24 in the area of Love Creek bridge west of Lewes. State police contacted Dewey Beach Police Oct. 20.

A family from Pennsylvania reported the theft to Dewey Police Oct. 11. The family said they gathered in Dewey Beach for a celebration of life for a recently deceased family member, said Dewey Sgt. Cliff Dempsey.

The urn, containing the ashes of the family member, was left in an unsecured motor vehicle that was parked on Dover Road at about 2:30 p.m., Oct. 8. When the family returned to the vehicle around 2 p.m., Oct. 10, they discovered the urn was not in the vehicle, Dempsey said.

The family has been put in touch with the person who found the urn, and arrangements have been made to retrieve the urn from the Dewey Beach Police Department.
