Wyndham Clark won his second U.S. Open in exciting fashion over Sam Burns by one shot. He was one of only four players to finish the tournament under par for the week. Clark was the most consistent player by far over all four days, and he had a six-shot lead going into the final round. He clearly did not play as well in the final round as the rest of the tournament, but he was able to hold on for the victory. His putting was very impressive for the whole tournament. Sam Burns played very well in the final round, but unfortunately for him, he missed a 17-foot putt by a few inches on the last hole to force a playoff. He shot a final round 67.

I also thought that the USGA did a very good job setting up the course. It was quite difficult, but not over the top.

On a sour note though, the behavior by some of the fans in the final round was ridiculous. They were booing when Clark hit poor shots into the greens, which just made no sense to me. Just because he made some mistakes while on tour in the past few years, doesn’t mean they have the right to cheer against him. I have grown tired of the lack of civility these days.

Changing subjects now, the Phillies have had three notable ninth-inning wins this week against the Washington Nationals. On Tuesday night, they were down 8-6 going into the ninth inning and were able to score eight runs with two outs and down to their last strike to win 14-9. On Wednesday, they came back in the same fashion from down by a run with two outs in the ninth. Kyle Schwarber earned a pinch hit walk and then, new bench player, Derek Hall, hit a home run to go ahead. On Thursday, Bryce Harper his a go-ahead home run in the ninth after the Phillies were down 5-0 earlier in the game. 

Since the Braves are struggling right now, the Phillies are now only four games out of first place in the division. I also feel very bad for the Washington Nationals' bullpen because apparently they have blown 23 saves in only half of the season. That's an incredible number.

By next week, the World Cup will be in the knockout stage of the tournament. The U.S. is playing well and have advanced to the knockout round. I’m not going to predict a very deep run for the team. They should focus on one game at a time in the next round and just keep it going forward with great games to watch.

So far, I’ve been impressed with the teams from France, Germany and Netherlands. After the group stage is over, I hope the 10 p.m. games are over so I dont have to record the games or ask Siri the results in the middle of the night. Go USA!
