Valerie R. Harmon, hardworking, energetic

October 29, 2019

Valerie R. Harmon, 63, lifelong resident of Frankford, entered her eternal rest in the arms of Jesus Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, while surrounded by her loving family.

Affectionately known as Val, she was born in Frankford Aug. 2, 1956, daughter of the late Joshua H. Walters and the late Emily C. Hall.  She attended the George Washington Carver Elementary School, eventually transitioning to Lord Baltimore, and graduated from Indian River High School class of 1975.

Val began her working career as a caregiver and then started working in the hospitality industry for the Fenwick Sea Charm Motel in Fenwick Island, and lastly for the Berlin Nursing Home before her illness.  Valerie also enjoyed working at Rick’s Laundry in Selbyville.  She was a faithful member of Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville, and enjoyed attending local camp meetings.  Her love of the Lord was apparent in her demeanor and talk as she would always end a conversation by saying, “Leave it in the hands of the Lord.”

Valerie will be remembered as hardworking, energetic, full of life and willing to do anything for anyone.  She loved family gatherings, holiday dinners, picking greens and spending time with her large family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Marlon Hall.  Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, Tracey Hall, Stacey Drummond and her husband Myron; Bruce Harmon, Jamell Harmon, Natasha Harmon, Carl Harmon and Tabitha McCray; and her 16 beloved grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother, Martin “Fuzzy” Hall; three sisters, Veronica Hall, Shelley Carter and her husband Roy and Cynthia Hall; just like a sister, Toni Torrence; her best friends, Mary Lou Straughan and Hope Taylor; William Miller, who was like a brother to Valerie; Tim Hall and his family, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A homegoing service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, at Antioch AME Church, 194 Clayton Ave., Frankford, where friends and family may visit after 2 p.m.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to help defray funeral expenses to Melson Funeral Services, PO Box 100, Frankford, DE 19945.
