Vernon Jay Morris II, Dewey entrepreneur

Vernon Jay Morris II, 73, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, in Phoenixville, Pa. He was born Aug. 19, 1945, in Plainfield, N.J.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, the late Mr. Vernon Jay Morris and Anna Lucille Morris (Waldron), as well as his sister Priscilla Ann Zeleznik (Morris). He leaves behind two sons, Justin Garrett Morris of West Chester, Pa., and Ryan David Morris of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Joan Beverly Morris of Richmond, Va.; his nephew, Scott Richard Brady, and niece, Jennifer Anne Kane (Brady), her husband Kevin and their son, Carter, and Don Holler, a dear, devoted friend to Vernon in Dewey Beach.

Vernon graduated from North Plainfield High School in New Jersey in 1963 as a member of the National Honor Society. He received his bachelor of science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in biochemistry. Vernon then received his master’s in business administration from Widener University in Pennsylvania. Vernon was a medic during the Vietnam war; he served his country proudly in the Army while taking care of his fellow soldiers.

After leaving the military, Vernon was employed as a biochemist at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., then as a biochemist with the FDA in Maryland, and later became a national sales representative for Abbott Laboratories in Pennsylvania for over 25 years.

Vernon had a true entrepreneurial spirit, which included numerous properties in both Pennsylvania and Delaware; after he retired, he moved to Dewey Beach, working at Delmar Bikes and Mold Medics.

Vernon enjoyed the beach, boating, swimming, fishing, reading, dancing, writing poetry, singing, and painting. He had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. Vernon was fun-loving and enjoyed life!
