Kent County Veterans Memorial Park will host a Memorial Day event at 2 p.m., Monday, May 25, at 760 South Little Creek Road, Dover.
Rhona Prescott, a U.S. Army nurse who served in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968 during the bloodiest times of the conflict, will address the audience of veterans and the public. She will also pay tribute to the sacrifices of those lost in all wars.
As an operating room nurse and later an acting chief nurse, her assignments included a Saigon hospital for brain injuries and chest wounds; the 616 Medical Clearing Company in An Khe, where she received the wounded directly from Dustoff helicopters; and later with the 85th Evac in Qui Nhon, which was also a POW hospital.
Prescott's experience treating horribly disfigured, battle-wounded soldiers and Marines led her to co-author a book of short stories with three other combat nurses, titled "Another Kind of War Story."
