The Cape Henlopen volleyball team traveled the western Route 9 drive for a matchup with rival Sussex Tech Oct. 5, and made the trip back with a 25-14, 25-17 and 25-15 victory for the Vikings.

After a hot first few points by the Ravens, the Vikings took control and never looked back.

“This was a match where from start to finish I'm really happy with how we played,” said Cape coach Tyler Coupe. “Tech proved to be what we prepared for, a large, physical and defensively sound team. We relied heavily on our serving to push them out of system, which ended up playing in our favor.”

Senior Sophia Spinelli and Emily Lamb teamed for 24 digs. Logan Shuttleworth scored 16 assists in the match while digging seven Tech kill attempts. Spinelli slammed six kills and Mikiyah Ennals hit four kills and four aces.

“Ennals just keeps getting better every game, and once she has some momentum behind her, she's hard to stop,” said Coupe. “The girls are starting to jell together and play determined ball. It's nice to see them executing what we've been practicing and to see almost the light bulb go off as they see it happen.”

Tech’s Kayla Booros bumped 23 digs. Megan Perdue knocked down 12 kills while bumping 12 digs.

Cape moves to 5-4 on the season, while Tech falls to 2-6.

The Cape junior varsity defeated the Ravens JV 2-0 to go to 7-2 on the season.

The Lady Vikings will welcome Woodbridge Tuesday, Oct. 10. Sussex Tech will play host to Sussex Academy.
