Transcending Gender on display at CAMP Rehoboth until May 31
May 5, 2021

Focusing on themes that embrace diversity and inclusion, and build unity and understanding, CAMP Rehoboth is displaying Transcending Gender through Monday, May 31.

This exhibition includes works by Los Angeles-based photographer Zach Oren, community art and thought-provoking panels form the Stonewall National Museum & Archives.

Oren has been traveling around the United States since 2017, working on the Ides of Gender, a photo essay that honors the beauty and diversity that is the transgender community. This project combines the two things he loves most: photography and human connection. Oren said from the very beginning, representation and positive visibility have been imperative.

Oren will discuss Ides of Gender in a virtual talk at 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 17. During this program, Oren will share additional works that are part of the collection as well as the origins for Ides of Gender, his vision and the challenges experienced with undertaking a project of this type.

Four community member artists are also featured with powerful and vibrant work, along with books, comics and additional prints.

The Stonewall National Museum & Archives Transcending Gender traveling show, consisting of 10 large panels, is displayed in the Elkins-Archibald Atrium.

Since its founding in 1973, the Stonewall National Museum & Archives has grown into one of the nation’s leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender cultural history resources. The Transcending Gender panels examine the ways that gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation intersect.

The LGBTQ+ community is united by the shared value of every person’s right to a genuine expression of self. The exhibit can be viewed in person from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center, 37 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
