Vote for Tim Ritzert in Lewes election

May 15, 2020

The doldrums of daily living that have invaded our lives since the coronavirus threat arrived have had a dulling effect on us all. Recently, Gov. Carney has signaled that some lessening of quarantining practices may be announced by month’s end, hinting that some sense of a return to normalcy may be on the horizon.

For residents of Lewes, a business matter at hand needing our immediate attention will be to establish a new date for city council elections and for candidates to resume their campaigns. For the first time in a number of years, there are choices to make from a field of declared candidates, with two incumbents and three challengers on the ballot.

There is a very good reason that three candidates are seeking the offices currently occupied by two incumbents. We have all heard the adage, “Past performance is the best indicator of future performance,” and that explains the groundswell in Lewes to make a change to our current city council.

Is it coincidental that since the last election, council decisions, amongst them annexation, the creation of annexation zoning districts and the pursuit of a costly legal battle against the Board of Public Works, seem to be in stark contrast to the will of the citizens of Lewes?

Amongst the field of candidates, there is one who is prepared to step forward with fresh ideas and is dedicated to open, transparent government.  Someone who can hit the ground running because he has attended hundreds of city meetings, spoken at public hearings and offered written comments concerning matters under consideration by the planning and parks and rec commissions as well as city council. Someone who will work to repair the disconnect between council and the Lewes community.

Someone knowledgeable of city code with the desire to guide future development with fair and equitable ordinances. Someone who approaches matters with an open mind, a desire to listen and learn, and offers a fair and balanced approach to problem solving.

Tim’s years of experience working as a project and contract management professional are readily apparent. He is always one step ahead in the analysis of issues.  He possesses the special ability to distill the facts with an eye to present and future consequences of actions (as well as inactions) on complex issues.

Like many of us who now call Lewes home, Tim is not a Lewes native, but he has been part of the community for well over 30 years.  As president of the Canary Creek HOA I have observed Tim’s active participation at many city meetings, and have always been impressed with his contribution to the process and concern for transparency. Without reservation, I believe Tim is the strongest, most qualified candidate in the field. I encourage you to give his candidacy serious consideration. The city council needs change now!
