Week 12: State looks to start Phase 2 on June 15

June 4, 2020

As Phase 1 of the economic reopening plan went into effect June 1, Gov. John Carney has announced that Phase 2 will begin at 8 a.m., Monday, June 15.

Under Phase 1, restaurants and most other retail businesses were allowed to reopen but at 30 percent of stated fire marshal’s occupancy limits. Masks are still required to be worn in public places.

In Phase 2, that increases to 60 percent and also includes churches, casinos, malls, commercial lodging and community pools. Summer camps can open after a plan for following protocols is submitted to state health officials. All child care facilities can reopen with restrictions on group sizes and with adherence to social distancing and cleaning protocols.

Gyms and personal care service businesses remain open at 30 percent occupancy.

Still not permitted to open include water parks, indoor tennis and similar facilities, arcades, bowling alleys, sports venues and facilities and indoor children’s play areas. Playgrounds can reopen if approved by a local government. Outdoor gatherings of less than 250 people are permitted provided all health and social distancing protocols are followed. Outdoor gatherings larger than 250 can take place if approved by state officials.

Other news during the week:

Even with expanded testing throughout the state, COVID-19 positive cases and hospitalizations continue to decrease.

At 8 a.m, Monday, June 8, tattoo parlors, message therapists and personal care services such as nail salons can reopen at 30 percent occupancy.
