Wet, heavy snow covers Cape Region

Snow began Friday afternoon and continued through the night, as the Cape Regioners discovered when they woke up to a heavy blanket of snow today, Saturday, Dec. 9.

The National Weather Service is calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow today and has issued a winter weather advisory until 7 p.m.

As of 8 a.m., the Delaware Department of Transportation has not issued any driving restrictions.

DelDOT recommends motorists to listen to radio stations that provide weather updates; an check back at deldot.gov.  Following DelDOT’s Facebook,facebook.com/DelawareDOT and Twitter at twitter.com/DelawareDOT plus listen to WTMC 1380 AM for updates.

Motorists may contact the Transportation Management Center 24 hours a day to report any travel or traffic related issues at the following numbers:  #77 from any cell phone in Delaware; 302-659-4600; or 1-800-324-8379.

No DART delays have been announced. For any weather-related transit service disruptions, go to dartfirststate.com.

Delmarva Power and Delaware Electric Cooperative are reporting minimal power outages. Delmarva power is reporting 23 active outages, affected 1,597 customers. The coop is reporting 190 customers, of its total 94,973, are without power.

The Snow Removal Reimbursement Program was enacted to financially assist neighborhoods for major snow events.  This program excludes private roads (roadways not maintained by state maintenance).
