William “Bill” George Hitchens, 72, of Rehoboth Beach and Stuart, Fla., passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026.
Born April 27, 1954, Bill was the second of three children born to George and Connie Hitchens in Wilmington. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1977 and soon afterward relocated to Rehoboth Beach, where he spent most of his adult life.
Bill had a deep passion for all things culinary – from cooking at home to fine dining – and enjoyed putting his own spin on every recipe. He also loved spending his leisure time on the water, either water skiing, fishing, crabbing or boating with family and dear friends.
A true sports enthusiast, Bill was a dedicated Eagles fan and often took on the role of sports commentator, sharing his own spirited opinions. He was also a natural “jack of all trades,” and family and friends frequently sought his assistance – or simply appreciated his willingness to lend a hand.
For the past 10 years, Bill enjoyed spending time at his second home in Stuart, Fa., which he affectionately called his “Happy Place.”
Bill leaves behind his beloved wife, Kim; his brothers, Thomas and John Hitchens; his niece and nephew; extended family; and countless dear friends. Although he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Kings Creek Country Club, Rehoboth.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Beebe Medical Foundation Intensive Care Unit Fund, beebehealthcare.org.
