William A. Hudson, World War II veteran

William A. Hudson, 95, of Lewes passed away at home Monday, July 30, 2018.

Bill was the son of the late Thornton and Edith (Simpler) Hudson. Born and raised in Midway on a dairy farm, he went in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned home to work for Vessels Lumber Company, Anderson and Stokes, and University of Delaware, from where he retired.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Edna (Mitchell) Hudson; three brothers, Edward, Ken and Charles “Charlie Boy” Hudson; and a sister, Shirley Hadder Friend.

He is survived by his daughter, Catherine “Kitty” Elliott and her husband Jerry; one grandson, Steve Elliott; three great-grandchildren, Kaya, Teague and Bryn; as well as his caregiver, sister-in-law Bessie Walker, who was so wonderful to both Bill and his late wife Edna.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. A graveside funeral service will immediately follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, 28787 Lockerman Road, Milton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are welcome to be made to Meals on Wheels, 32409 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes, DE 19958 or Vitas Hospice, 30265 Commerce Drive, Suite 202/203, Millsboro, DE 19966.
