William Ivan West, loved country music

William Ivan West, 86, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, at home.

Bill lived in the Cokesbury/Georgetown area. Bill was born in Bridgeville Jan. 1, 1935, to the late Huey and Hazel West. Bill loved playing country music and singing, pitched softball for several teams, and owned standardbred horses and went to horse races.  He also loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Bill was a retiree from DuPont in Seaford.

Bill was married to the late Marie Dukes West (2019). They had one son William E. West (Bill) (wife Faye); two granddaughters Courtney West Johnson (husband Zach) and great-granddaughter Cora Adele Johnson, and Ava Collins Johnson who will enter this world around Aug. 30, of North Carolina, and Megan West Reiss (husband Ben) and great-grandson Owen Benjamin Reiss of Philadelphia, Pa.

Bill had three brothers, Delbert West (deceased) Junior West (deceased) and Merrill West (wife Judy), who resides in Bridgeville. 

Nieces and nephews were a great part of Bill’s life. Debbie Windett, Kenny West, and Keith West from brother Delbert’s family; Huey West from Junior’s family, and Michelle West and Angie West Lowe from Merrill’s family. (Special thanks to Michelle.)

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 11 a.m.  Interment will be in Cokesbury Cemetery, Georgetown.
