William J.  ‘Sparky’ Hinderer, USPS retiree

William J.  Hinderer "Sparky,” 87, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021.  He was born July 24, 1933, in Wilmington, son of the late Norman E. and Charlotte (Speer) Hinderer.

Mr. Hinderer honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. After his honorable discharge from active duty, he continued to serve his country for six years in the reserves. Mr. Hinderer enjoyed a lifelong career with the U.S. Postal Service as an express mail clerk, retiring after 28 dedicated years.

In his free time, Mr. Hinderer could often be found in the garage working on his cars, on the golf course or at the softball field. He also enjoyed following professional sports, especially baseball. Above all, he enjoyed time spent with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hinderer was predeceased by his brother, Norman E. Hinderer Jr. and his sister, Dolores H. Elder. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mildred E.  (Dehorty) Hinderer; his son, Eric J. Hinderer and his wife Katie; his daughters: Robin L. Hinderer and Laura Ellerbruch and her husband Clinton; and his grandsons: Zackary Ellerbruch, William J. Hinderer II and Gavin K. Hinderer.

Services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins - Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
