William J. “Bill” Geppert III, 60, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away suddenly Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, at Penn Highlands Hospital, Clearfield, Pa. Born in Dover, June 3, 1966, he was the son of Norma Kress Geppert and the late Dr. William J. Geppert Jr.

Bill graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1984, was an Eagle Scout, and went on to attend Villanova University, earning a degree in accountancy in 1988. He received his master’s degree in education in 2001 from University of Delaware. At Villanova, Bill played quarterback for four years and afterward worked as an accountant for five years before earning his teaching certification. He began teaching at Cape Henlopen High School in 1994 and dedicated more than three decades to educating Cape Henlopen students in chemistry, marine science and robotics.

Bill's impact on generations of students was reflected in both his dedication as an educator and the many honors he received throughout his career. He served as the science department chair for four years, was a National Board Certified Teacher in chemistry, coached Cape's Robotics team and Science Olympiad students, was selected as Cape Henlopen School District Teacher of the Year, and in 2008 won the Governor's Marine and Aquatic Science Teacher of the Year award.

Beyond the classroom, Bill served as head football coach at Cape Henlopen High School from 2001-02. He coached the Cape Henlopen boys' and girls' swim teams for nearly three decades, and during that time he led numerous conference championship teams, coaching countless conference champions, state medalists, and collegiate swimmers. Bill was named Henlopen Conference Coach of the Year multiple times for both the boys' and girls' swim teams and was named the 2026 DIAA Girls' Swimming Coach of the Year following his final season.

Bill helped lead Cape's golf team to the Henlopen North Championship in 2025, its first since 2004, and then became head golf coach in 2026. For many years, Bill served as a Delaware State Parks Beach Patrol lifeguard at Indian River Inlet, helping keep Delaware's beaches safe.

In addition to his father, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Kristin Leigh Geppert. He is survived by his son, William J. Geppert IV (Mackenzie); daughter, Marlee Geppert; and mother, Norma Kress Geppert.

Bill will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, students and all those in the community who had the privilege to meet him.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Aug. 14, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow the visitation at 12 p.m. Interment will be private.
