My name is David Krasnoff. I was the chef and owner of the first white-tablecloth restaurant in Lewes. I opened up in the spring of 1985 and sold the property (not the restaurant) after 17 years when my property was rezoned residential from commercial. It is from this perspective I write this letter in support of Andrew Williams for mayor.
While Mayor Becker has been an important part of Lewes government for nearly 20 years, Lewes needs a change of perspective.
During his time as mayor, Becker has fostered partnerships with other local and state government entities. Some have helped and some have not. A discussion of the merits of some of these pursuits is not the goal here. Suffice it to say that most certainly there have been occasions where the mayor should have recused himself because of his pursuits as a citizen.
Becker is a local business person. He owns a hotel; he owns a liquor store; he owns commercial rental property as well as housing rentals. He has accumulated this wealth as he has participated in city government, after moving here from Washington in the late 1990s.
Andrew Williams has lived here most of his life. He has chosen to invest the education of his children and experiences in the Lewes community where he too was educated and gained life experiences.
He is 46 years old and born and raised in Lewes. He is running against two candidates who have moved to Lewes; one to pursue development and one to enjoy retirement.
Williams is the best candidate for those people of Lewes who have lived here as their families before them have; and he is the best candidate for those people who live within the limits of the town and have chosen to move here.
He is representative of what has guided Lewes to be the special place that has attracted others to put down stakes here.
Unencumbered by business or social commitments of any kind, citizens of Lewes who will be voting Saturday, May 14, need to choose an individual who will be pragmatic. They need to choose Andrew Williams.
Decisions need to be made by city government that deals with the overdevelopment of the suburban Lewes. Commercial zoning to provide services for the plethora of single-family home developments needs to be on the agenda.
Voting citizens in this election need to turn to a younger, more pragmatic voice as to how things should be for the next generation of residents.
Vote for Andrew Williams.
