Winners announced for short story contest

Cat & Mouse Press has announced the winners of the 2018 Rehoboth Beach Reads Short Story Contest. The contest, in its sixth year, invited writers to submit short stories that fit the theme Beach Fun, and had a connection to Rehoboth Beach.

Browseabout Books, contest sponsor, awards a $500 cash prize for first place, $250 for second place, and $100 for third place. The top stories will be included in the book “Beach Fun,” to be published by Cat & Mouse Press by the end of the year.

A panel of judges selects stories for the top prizes and chooses stories they think deserve special merit for individual judge’s awards. This year’s judges were Alex Colevas, Stephanie Fowler, Tery Griffin, Laurel Marshfield, Mary Pauer and Candace Vessella.

The stories selected for Beach Fun were: first place, “The Tooth Fairy’s Helper,” Joy Givens, Pittsburgh, Pa.; second place, “Sea to Shining See,” Kathleen Martens, Rehoboth Beach; third place, “Beach Thief,” Lonn Braender, Washington Crossing, Pa
