A Lewes woman faces charges after police say she assaulted a trooper Oct. 21 at a Route 1 convenience store.

Dawn Baker, 37, was at the Wawa on Dartmouth Drive and Route 1 at 7:35 p.m. asking customers for gas money when she became disorderly, using profanity against people who refused to give her money, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

When a trooper arrived, Jaffe said, Baker ran off and she struck the trooper who was trying to restrain her.

The trooper sustained minor injures and damage to her equipment, Jaffe said, but she did not require medical treatment.

Baker was transported to Troop 7 where she was charged with second-degree assault injuring a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, failure to comply with taking of photos and fingerprints, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and loitering

She was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in default of $6,602 secured bond.
